Shower Bases

17 Products

A shower base is a key element in any bathroom. A crucial step in building the perfect shower is figuring out which shower base to choose. A reliable shower base prevents leaks, dampness, and rot. Finding the right shower base can elevate your bathroom’s overall aesthetic and improve your bathroom experience.

Our Shower Bases

Our moulded shower trays are made from a single piece of material, making them durable and heavy-duty. Moulded shower bases differ from other types in a few key ways:

  • Hygiene: They are a lot more hygienic and easier to clean than other shower base alternatives, like tile. Where the grouting can cause a build up of mould or mildew, moulded showers have less build up and are easier to clean.
  • Installation: Because they come as a premade unit, they are generally easier to install than custom-made or tiled bases.
  • Maintenance: These shower trays need minimal maintenance and are very easy to clean.
  • Cost: These kinds of shower bases are much more cost effective than custom-made or tiled bases.

Our Shower Base Materials

Here at SWAN Bathrooms we have two types of shower base materials: Stonelite and SMC. Depending on what your bathroom needs, these two options will suit a range of different needs.

Stonelite

Stonelite is a type of material made from mixing crushed stone or marble with resin. It is an incredibly versatile material with a multitude of uses, however as a shower base it has the below qualities:

  • Durability: This material is highly durable, resistant to chips, scratches, and stains which are ideal for shower bases.
  • Non-Porous: Sonelite is non-porous, so reduces mould and mildew while also preventing water penetration.
  • Warm to the touch: This material has been known to give off a pleasant, naturally warm feel which some may prefer over a colder feeling shower base.
  • Slip-resistant: Stonelite is an excellent anti-slip material, even when wet.
  • Easy to clean: Oftentimes, abrasive scrubbing brushes and cleaning detergents do more harm than good. Stonelite only needs mild soap and warm water to be cleaned effectively.

We sell exclusively Oceano stonelite shower bases from their ECO range.

SMC

Sheet moulding compound (SMC) is a material made from combining resin with reinforced fibres like chopped glass or continuous glass. This material is used a variety of different ways, but as our shower bases, it has the below benefits:

  • Durability: As a shower base, this material is resistant to scratches, chips, and stains.
  • Lightweight: SMC is a lightweight material, making it much easier to install and transport than other options.
  • Moldability: SMC can be moulded into many complex shapes, which is why it is a part of our moulded base collection.
  • Chemical resistance: This material is extremely resistant to different kinds of chemicals, including cleaning agents and detergents.
  • Low maintenance: Because of its resistance to chemicals, this material is very easy to clean and keep clean.

We sell Cob & Pen shower bases from their SMC range only.

Shower Base Outlet Types

We have two main types of shower outlets in our range, these are:

  • Centre outlet: The most common and widely used drain type. They are located in the centre of the shower base and work with most plumbing configurations.
  • Rear outlet: Located off-centre, generally near the back of the shower tray. They are a great option for small bathrooms or for plumbing layouts that require alternative drain placements.
