Shower Bases
A shower base is a key element in any bathroom. A crucial step in building the perfect shower is figuring out which shower base to choose. A reliable shower base prevents leaks, dampness, and rot as the water is contained within the base. Finding the right shower base can elevate your bathroom’s overall aesthetic and improve your bathroom experience.

Our Shower Bases
Our moulded shower bases are manufactured to form a single piece of material, making them durable and heavy-duty. Moulded shower bases differ from other types of shower bases in a few key ways:
- Hygiene: They are more hygienic and easier to clean than other shower base alternatives, like tiled floor bases, where the grouting can have a build-up of mould or mildew if not cleaned regularly.
- Installation: Because they come as a premade unit, they are generally easier to install than custom-made or tiled floor bases.
- Maintenance: These shower bases need minimal maintenance and are very easy to clean.
- Cost: These kinds of shower bases are much more cost-effective than custom-made or tiled floor bases.
Our Shower Base Materials
Here at SWAN Bathrooms, we have a few types of shower base materials: Stonelite, Polymarble and SMC. Depending on what your bathroom needs are, these options will suit a range of different needs.
Stonelite & Polymarble
These are made from mixing crushed stone or marble with resin. It is an incredibly versatile material with a multitude of uses; and as a shower base, has the below qualities:
- Durability: This material is highly durable, resistant to chips, scratches, and stains, making Stonelite & Polymarble ideal for shower bases.
- Non-Porous: Stonelite & Polymarble is non-porous, so reduces mould and mildew while also preventing water penetration.
- Warm to the touch: This material has a naturally warmer feel, which some may prefer over tiled bases.
- Slip-resistant: Stonelite is an excellent anti-slip material, even when wet.
- Easy to clean: Oftentimes, abrasive scrubbing brushes and cleaning detergents do more harm than good. Stonelite & Polymarble shower bases only needs mild soap and warm water to be cleaned effectively.

SMC
Sheet moulding compound (SMC) is a material made from combining resin with reinforced fibres like chopped glass or continuous glass. This material is used in a variety of different ways, but as our shower bases, it has the following benefits:
- Durability: As a shower base, this material is resistant to scratches, chips, and stains.
- Lightweight: SMC is a lightweight material, making it much easier to install and transport than other options.
- Moldability: SMC can be moulded into different shapes, making it an excellent choice for corner shower cubicles.
- Low maintenance: This material is very easy to clean.
We sell Cob & Pen shower bases from their SMC range.
Shower Base Outlet Types
We have two main types of shower waste outlets in our ranges. These are:
- Centre outlet: The most common and widely used drain type. They are located in the centre of the shower base and work with most plumbing configurations.
- Rear outlet: Located off-centre, generally at the back of the shower base. They are a great option for bathrooms with plumbing layouts that require alternative drain placements.

FAQs
What is the difference between a shower base and a shower tray?
Both terms are often used interchangeably, but there’s a subtle difference. A shower base typically refers to a fully moulded foundation installed beneath your shower enclosure, providing a solid, waterproof floor. A shower tray, on the other hand, can describe a lighter, pre-formed product that sits at floor level or slightly above and is designed to be tiled over.
Which shower base is best for my bathroom?
The best shower base depends on your layout and space. For smaller bathrooms, a compact shower base tray with a rear outlet is ideal, while larger bathrooms may benefit from a 1200 mm model with a centre drain for balanced water flow.
Swan Plumbing Supplies offers a variety of shower bases online, including both SMC, Polymarble and Stonelite materials that provide lasting performance, easy maintenance and a sleek finish to suit any bathroom design.
Do your shower bases come with waste outlets or drains?
Some of our shower bases offer the upgrade of a channel grate or coloured integrated waste outlet to accommodate your design customisation. Always check the product specifications before ordering. If you’re unsure which configuration works best, our team can guide you or you can visit your nearest Swan Plumbing Supplies store for expert advice.
What size shower base do I need?
Choosing the right size depends on your bathroom layout and available floor space. Common sizes include 900 x 900 mm, 900 x 1200 mm and 900 x 1500 mm. For new builds or renovations, measure carefully and allow space for tiling and wall finishes. Our shower bases in Australia include both standard and customisable options to help you achieve the perfect fit.
Are your shower bases easy to clean and maintain?
Yes. Our moulded shower bases for sale are made from non-porous materials such as SMC, Polymarble and Stonelite, which resist dirt, soap scum and mildew. Simply clean with mild soap and warm water. No harsh scrubbing or chemicals required. Their smooth finish keeps your shower looking clean and fresh with minimal effort.

Yes. Swan Plumbing Supplies delivers most shower bases Australia-wide, including major cities and regional areas. Delivery times vary depending on location, and a delivery fee applies to all orders. Some orders are handled by trusted courier partners. We’ll notify you of your delivery timeframe whenever possible to ensure a smooth process.
